Re: 1950 R11 BW Overdrive Solenoid Installation

I would think neutral would be OK so you could slightly turn the driveshaft if needed to line up anything that might need a bit of rotation. Reading the solenoid install instructions in the B-W manual it would seem the solenoid does not need to be powered to engage the pawl on the R11 but having the...

Re: 1954 Pacific HT

Not sure exactly which piece you are referring to. Could you post a photo of the location or a better description. As I recall there are two or three pieces so is it a straight piece above the door or the curved piece above the quarter window or somewhere else?

Re: 1954 Pacific HT

You might check out Autoloc units. https://www.autoloc.com/catalog/Power-Window-Kits Some 6 or 7 years ago after another motor failure a poster at packardinfo installed the universal flat window kit on his 55 sedan without too much difficulty. As I recall all he had to do was provide a support for t...

Re: 1954 Pacific HT

Some have managed with early 50s Ford or Chrysler systems but finding those today are going to be difficult. By 55 most cars had already gone to 12v and on cars priced to be popular with the masses, power windows were not that common an option in the early 50s. Finding any kind of 6v motor today is ...

Re: 1938 Packard

You don't mention a model but if for a 38 110-120, you might contact Max Merritt. Not sure if what he has is original or a replacement that fits but he does list arms for those models. Nothing listed for senior models. https://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~dyndetail~Z5Z5Z50000022b~Z5Z5Z5154...

Re: Carburetor or - and key starter possible?

That does throw a new wrinkle. I was working under the impression it was a standard trans but if an Ultramatic, those years had the safety switch on the transmission so that involves a bit of extra thought because it will not be a simple paralleling. Not knowing what is in the car as far as stock wi...

Re: 1949 Dome Light

The 50 dome light should be getting power directly from the accessory circuit breaker which is located on the back of the instrument cluster approximately in the middle and under the gauges. Since the breaker is fed directly off the ammeter there should be constant power thru the breaker and directl...

Re: Carburetor or - and key starter possible?

You can use them both safely under most circumstances. The issue with that switch combination would be if by some fate the operator decided to pump the gas during a start using the ignition switch and the engine started. Before vacuum could disable the carb switch it was activated just after the ign...

Re: Carburetor or - and key starter possible?

Th stock 54 Clipper would have had key start so if your car has pedal start then most likely someone found a reason for changing it back. 54 ignition switch failures and the fact that particular switch was a one year only item and possibly hard to find after Packard went away is a possibility. 49-53...

Re: Dash Plaque

Can't tell you much about the plaque itself but KFI was a radio station started by Earle C Anthony in Los Angeles in the early 20s and was one of the first stations with regular or scheduled broadcasting. Anthony both owned and ran it in the early days and he also started and owned another station. ...
