Re: Unusual Packards

Hi Adam Indeed the Studebaker President then was significantly larger than the Commander. Of the rail inspection cars, you'll notice that most were seven passenger sedans or limousine. Their primary purpose was to transport railroad officials inspecting the rail lines, not as section crew work vehic...

Re: Unusual Packards

Both wreckers converted from passenger cars are Studebakers, 1928 models, one a President the other a Commander. Very likely both were the last models to have the 354 ci Big Six engine, very torquey and powerful.

Re: Max revolutions for a 1939 320 engine?

Hi For what its worth as an rpm guideline, the maximum torque listed for a '35 320 ci engine is as follows: 260 lb/ft @ 1,600 rpm. Your '39 Super 8 320 is essentially the same engine. The advice given about mechanical sympathy is spot-on; listen closely how the engine sounds and reacts at various sp...

'57 Clipper sedan rear clip & NOS Left front fender

Hi For sale is the rear clip from a '57 Clipper Town Sedan, stripped of all trim. It was shipped from out of state for an aborted project thirty years ago. Time for it to go, will fit on a small trailer. Ask for photos. The NOS left front fender came from Newman & Altman, nice shape, light surface r...

Re: 1938 Packard 110 hard start when car is warm

Hi

Make sure you have a very good ground, with 00 cables with ends soldered on; clean, rust-free surfaces where the cables are bolted on. If you car has a 12V size ground cable, its inadequate for 6V especially when everything is heated and the resistance is greatest.

Re: Packard - profits & losses, fun and games with numbers

Hi Dave Thanks for taking the time to summarize and analyze this data, it certainly clarifies many curiosities about how profitable various product efforts were. Those years of high production numbers should have been consistently more profitable but one sees the real affect of going head to head wi...

Re: My 1955 Packard Clipper

Hi

Looking great there! Nice to see a young man restore a fine Packard to enjoy. The two-tone blue really makes those Clippers look great. Hope you have many years and good times with it.

Re: How interchangeable is a 52 200 and 55 Patrician?

Hi Since it sounds as if you are not planning on a factory-correct restoration but a mild, all-Packard customization of the 200, here is a bit of advice and encouragement. The seats will interchange, the door panels with modification as the Patrician has less rear wheelhouse intrusion and the 1955 m...
