Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

Sorry for the delay in response. The car is down for the count, and i had to focus on a different vehicle. While crossing a neighborhood intersection in the Packerd, somebody cut a left turn in front of me, and I had to stop a bit hard. As soon as that happened, it seemed to knock the existing probl...

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

I've been sidelined with other stuff to take care of, but I'm trying to get back to the Cavalier. The hesitation/ stalling roughness on acceleration is still there until the car warms up enough - and it's gotten a little worse. I need to tend to the front end too, it's popping a little when I turn c...

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

An update on Billie the '53... Yeah, I named her Billie. She was originally bought in BIllings, Montana - so it seemed appropriate. I've gone about a month now with her as a short-distance daily driver. ( I live a half mile from work ) - and a couple longer weekend drives. She's performing just fine...

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

So, I'm about 2 weeks into testing the car out as a short-distance daily driver. The white smoke is still there, but only on harder acceleration. Issues that have arisen - 1. it definitely seems to be burning a little oil, I had to top off after 4 days. 2. For the first couple miles, it doesn't want...

Re: Various 1953 Parts

Hi! Perhaps a little late, but I'd be curious to see what door parts you have left. I'm working on a '53 Cavalier. The front door glass on both sides is glass, and I may have a few pieces inside the door that have rusted.

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

While im waiting here for a shop to open, so i can the brakes rounded out, I'm curious for opinions. Ive noticed over the last two days that a little white smoke puffs out when i accelerate. Mostly from a stop. The head gasket is new. Im wondering if maybe its running a little rich. When I mentioned...

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

Back on the road! Rebuilt starter seems fine, and now that the transmission sludge is mostly gone, it's shifting more consistently. I can now get back to contemplating the cosmetics. I'll post some pictures. I need to consider halting the surface rust on the frame, and taking down a fabric close eno...

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

Phew! It's been a tough sweaty weekend. Arizona is a great, dry place for car preservation, but not for working on them. After replacing a gearbox and other parts on the old pickup, i tackled the Packard. Replaced the rear brrAkake hose and rebuilt the cylinders. After a goofgooddlood bleed, the bra...

Re: 1953 Packard Cavalier

While I'm waiting for the weekend to come, so I can try sorting out the brakes, I'm daydreaming about all the other things to fix... such as the transmission. Has anybody ever dealt with removing the transmission for a rebuild? I still want to change the fluid and clean the filter and test drive bef...
