Re: 1938 Packard Coupe Fender Skirts

I know I'm responding late but here's an excellent supplier of fender skirts. Either new or new old stock, they had the correct tear drops for my 1947 Custom. Hope this helps anyone looking for fender skirts!

Armored Cable Replacement - 1947 Packard Custom Super 2106

Hi Everyone - I'm having issues with the armored cable in my Packard Custom 2106. Frayed wiring caused a short and now I'm looking for advice on who might rewire these units or an NOS/Rebuilt replacement might be available and from whom. I've tried most of the vendors listed in Hemming's that do wir...

Re: Cures for a 47 fuel issue

Guys - I'm at wits end with this issue. I took the car into a new mechanic who reset the carburetor so it's idling smoothly. He let the car stand idling for two hours and there was no fuel starvation or engine cutting out. Great! I'm back on the road. And for the last eight trips in the car it ran l...

Re: How do you tell a 1949 Custom from a Super DeLuxe?

Dave - Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know that Packard had dropped the fore to aft headliner in the 23rd series which made we wonder what I might be buying. And I didn't know that the "Super DeLuxe"'s trunk trim was partial and not full as you pointed out. An additional photo from the posti...

How do you tell a 1949 Custom from a Super DeLuxe?

Hi Everyone - I'm very interested in purchasing a 1949 Packard Custom but unfortunately its 2,000 miles from my home and I can only rely on the photographs and conversations I've had with the owner. It's listed as a "DeLuxe" in the ad but he tells me when he posted the car they didn't give him the o...

Re: Mystery Electrical Failure - 1947 Custom 2106

Hi Everyone - I've trailed down the issue with the electrical system on the 47 Custom and wanted to share the problem. As Howard mentioned in one of the first posts, checking the logical first steps was done by cleaning the terminals on the battery and cables, checking for loose wires, etc. All this...

Re: Mystery Electrical Failure - 1947 Custom 2106

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Very helpful. I did find this electrical schematics page for Packard on the internet and thought I'd share the link with you as it might be helpful down the road. http://www.auto-wiring-diagram.com/category/packard Back up to the garage to try your suggestions...

Mystery Electrical Failure - 1947 Custom 2106

Hi Everyone - Hopped into my 47 to take it for a drive. Turned the key and all gauges went on. Turned on the auxiliary fuel pump to prime the car and left it running for about thirty seconds, pumped the accelerator a couple of times and then took it to the floor-board to start the car. The starter m...

Re: Cures for a 47 fuel issue

The Packard is back on the road but I need your advice again. As I mentioned, the carburetor flooded in the garage and my mechanic did a house call by repairing the needle and float. He did this by removing the carburetor from the car while it was in storage and took the whole carburetor to his shop...
