Re: Can One Add Power Steering To A 1949 Strait 8???

I believe the person who first posted this question 3 or 4 years ago is the same gentleman that completed an install on his dads 49. He has provided some photos and a description of components used and how he approached the conversion via some posts at the packardinfo forum. While there are other w...

Re: Can One Add Power Steering To A 1949 Strait 8???

Normal steering is fine. It's just the close encounters that are killing me. When the car is in slow movement mode like parking or other tight maneuvering. Re: Can One Add Power Steering To A 1949 Strait 8???

This thread sort of ended without a resolution. I'm also interested in getting power steering on a 1949 (22nd series) Packard. Any ideas as to how?

Stuttering in 1st and 2nd gear

My 22nd series '49 Packard is in excellent shape but recently, when I shift, the engine seems to stutter in 1st and 2nd gear. Once I get to 3rd gear all is well and she rolls like a dream. I'm not a mechanic and have no clue as to what may be wrong, if anything. The car has been sitting in my garage...

Re: Green paint on '48-'49 Packards

Thanks for your help. I have the book - somewhere. Will find it and also get the necessary numbers. The car has been in the shop for months now as they did other work to make it start and run better. I also had quite a bit of chrome work done.

Re: Green paint on '48-'49 Packards

Dave, I've already agreed to a total repaint as good match seemed impossible to get for old and new paint. I still would like the color to be as close as possible to the original without having to rely on a 1x2" paint sample. I don't trust myself to pick the correct color. Yet the shop wants me to p...

Re: Green paint on '48-'49 Packards

Your car may well have originally had a metallic paint, just go back to the main website and from the left-hand menu bar click on "Reference" and you'll find a listing of all the availabile paint colors for 22nd series Packards. Any good paint shop can obtain new paint to match these, or alternativ...
