Re: Overdrive?

>That last item is a reason Packard offered a retrofit kit of R11s for some owner of previous year cars to buy and have installed if they had experienced issues with R9s. My dad's 1949 Packard had its R-9 lockup and it broke internally. I would be interested in converting to the R-11. Do you know wh...

PS Pump PSI/can Generator Spin Backwards And Still Work???

As you have seen, I am the guy who is trying to add power steering to a 1949 Packard. Regarding the engine accessories, my plan is to bolt a 1/8 inch steel plate to the drivers side of the block using the existing oil filter and generator bosses and then start from the steel plate as the base for at...

Can I Talk (type) Someone Into Taking A Picture???

Hi All, I removed the engine from my dad's 1949 Packard and after it was out we decided to adapt a power steering system to the car. My plan is to bolt a 1/8 inch steel plate to the drivers side of the block using the existing oil filter and generator bosses and then start from the steel plate as th...

Here is an ad for a Monroe aftermarket kit for the 1949 Packard: https://books.google.com/books?id=TC0DAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA100&lpg=PA100&dq=1949+packard+power+steering+kit&source=bl&ots=-wbtOulVvq&sig=s07UyXq_e3uNTCOSOB_vL-eanvs&hl=en&sa=X&ei=CZAgVaj7MobHsAXOlIDgDw&ved=0CHQQ6AEwEA#v=onepage&q=1949%20packa...

Re: Can One Add Power Steering To A 1949 Strait 8???

Does anyone know what company made the steering gear on the 1949? If I can find out what steering gear it is I might could see if another make of car has a conversion kit. Here is an example of a 1949 Mercury conversion kit where they take a new PS box and bolt it to the Mercury chassis. http://www....

Re: Can One Add Power Steering To A 1949 Strait 8???

Thanks Dave for the information.

Yes the ratio will be more turns than the OEM power steering car however that is no big deal.

The car is my dad's car and in would be very nice for him to enjoy easier parking.

Does anyone have any pictures of this kind of install or any advice?
