Severe overheating 1936

Just bought 1936 Club Sedan. Standard Eight. Overheats and boils over in a few miles. IR Thermometer says hotter at the rear of the engine. Engine runs perfect, smooth and quiet. Everything, water pump, etc seems working. Friend suggested engine clogged. Pull front clip and pull the brass tube in th...

Re: How to set timing on 1933 Eight?

It seems to me that the distributor is set up with timing on the front four cylinders and then the rear four cylinders. I suspect I have valve ping that makes a similar sound when I run accidently low test gasoline on a modern V8 engine that is to run on high test gasoline. I appreciate the technica...

Re: Pictures of our 1933 Packard Victoria

Dave, the spokes on my wheels are not threaded, so cannot be a 12. Do I have a problem? Seem to be adequate clearance and no scrubbing. I can scratch off metal covers and i am ok with the naked tires. Not so sure about the side mount mirrors anyway. will keep looking for hinge pin mirrors. This woul...

Re: Pictures of our 1933 Packard Victoria

]Dave, Thanks again, for your learning! I want to know more as my Packard knowledge is about three weeks old. Got several interesting cars at the same time (1935 Auburn 8-851 Phaeton, 1947 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet and a 1914 Model T Phaeton brass era) I am also researching these cars on other f...

Re: Pictures of our 1933 Packard Victoria

Unfortunately the side covers did not come with the car. The tires came from Coker and show a date of 2004.

Re: Pictures of our 1933 Packard Victoria

A fine-looking Packard indeed, wishing you many happy years and miles with it. The 33 and 34 model are IMO especially handsome and have fine road manners as well. Hard to judge in a photo but the tires appear to be incorrect size. Dave, since my experience has been more about 1956-1960 Cadillacs, d...

Re: How to set timing on 1933 Eight?

Oz Man, :) I have printed out the article by Dave. I have also run aground in another article that suggests changing the dual points to a single points set for about $125USD. Looks as though is an upgrade from the apparently cumbersome dual setup. Your suggestion!

Re: How to set timing on 1933 Eight?

Dave, thank you for your knid reply as you have helped me in the past. I tried a search "synchronizing dual ignition systems" and it only turned back up in my original post. Being able to "need to time both sets of 4 cylinders independently, or synchronize the two point sets" seems very different in...
