Re: stuck engine suggestions in a 1927 6. what oil to use?

thanks Dave, I can afford to be patient, I have plenty else to do. I'll probably add some Kroil asap. I want to get new tires on it soon as well, partly so i can move it when needed. I know there is a loooong checklist before we actually try to turn over the motor. I know from putting a hand crank o...

Re: how hard is it to get keys for a 1927?

thanks for the tips. My plan now is to get tires on it asap. i need to find what's available that fits the car. i know i saw a thread somewhere about tires. I also need to figure out what to pour in the engine. my gut instinct is Kano Kroil or Marvels Mystery, but i know everyone has a favorite answ...

stuck engine suggestions in a 1927 6. what oil to use?

I didn't see a specific post, but apologies if i am repeating. I have a 1927 6 and the engine has not turned over in 40+ years? I'm 44 and i don't remember ever seeing it run. It previously ran ok though. Anyway, I know everyone has their favorite think to pour into the cylinders via the spark plug ...

Re: how hard is it to get keys for a 1927?

ha yes, those square tires don't cut it. as far as I can tell it is complete. the body looks pretty good too. not for show quality, but as a survivor for sure. that's great because I want to focus on the mechanical aspects and have it run safely. I have a lot of research to do. especially for guidan...

Re: how hard is it to get keys for a 1927?

Perhaps Packard made a change of components, or perhaps the 'high security' locking ignition was an option. Is you car a 6 or 8 cylinder? It would be great if you could post some pics once the car is moved into the light. Merry Christmas! Adam.. It's a 6. My Dad definitely did not buy it new, I *th...

Re: how hard is it to get keys for a 1927?

Good point about testing before worrying too much. I’m moving the car to a spot with better light and it’ll be easier to work on, and go over.

Re: how hard is it to get keys for a 1927?

Interesting. Ours has a key in that same spot behind the steering wheel.
I removed the vehicle ID number plate and there’s a sticker on the firewall I can’t read. Nothing stamped on the plate. I’ll keep searching for a key.

Re: how hard is it to get keys for a 1927?

Just a couple of observations here: 1.Your ignition switch and coil were built as a unit, which may complicate the matter of dismantling it. I urge you to proceed very cautiously. 2. The switch housing was made of pot metal, and few if any have survived in usable condition. I hope yours is one of th...
