How to identify Transmission - '41 & '51 Packards

How do I identify which transmission I have? I have a '41 Packard 120 (1901 series), but the 282ci motor was swapped at some point in the late 50's with a '51 -- 327ci straight eight. I don't know if that could have been affixed to the original transmission, or if it was swapped with the '51 transmi...

Upholstery/Interiors for 1941 One Twenty

We are working to restore our 41 One Twenty. I had heard there is a place in CA that produces Upholstery kits -- anyone know who that would be or other companies that can do so? Also, any links to stock Upholstery material/designs for that year? Thanks!!!

Re: 1941 Packard One Twenty VIN?? model? info & parts

Motor is J253576 -- I'm guessing probably late 1951. I'll see if we can locate a casting number somewhere on the transmission

Re: 1941 Packard One Twenty VIN?? model? info & parts

Thank you! As it looks like the engine was replaced with a 1951, I understand that the '41 transmission wouldn't likely mount to it? If so, they probably replaced the motor and transmission at the same time -- any way to identify a transmission?

Re: 1941 Packard One Twenty VIN?? model? info & parts

When I look up model numbers for 1941, they begin with 19.., but this one has a model number of 1492 -- is it just a less popular model or that those places don't stock this model? I found a reference at http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/modelinfo/index.php?mode=year&id=1941 that shows 1492 ...

Re: 1941 Packard One Twenty VIN?? model? info & parts

Thank you! Yes, the engine number is certainly a J. The head is 34 1/4" x 7 3/4" and appears to have the numbers 426537 288 A7 . It is a bit of a snug fit front to back. The odometer shows 68,000 miles, and the car was only on the road for less than 20 years. By modern standards, it is likely that i...

1941 Packard One Twenty VIN?? model? info & parts

We just acquired a 1941 Packard One Twenty but need some help: 1) The VN on the plate is 1492-I0704 -- it looks like they are usually 8 digits, but this appears to have a capital i in the middle -- anyone ever seen this, the title shows it as a number 1. At any rate, can anyone help me decode this a...
