Re: Valuation impact of an engine swap

Thanks guys. I appreciate the "as built" and total originality points. Personally, I'm in the "they are only original once" category so once restored I'm looking to stay in the period correct space. In the case of this car, I'm not looking for concours or investment grade. It has its fit and finish ...

Re: Valuation impact of an engine swap

Thanks for the helpful and educational information. I got additional information from the owner which I attached. He confirms it is a 356 with a 327 head, 9 main bearings, hydraulic lifters and 165 hp. The vin on the car is G611231C which he states correlates with an early ’49 Packard Custom series ...

Re: Valuation impact of an engine swap

Thanks for the insights. The owner did not directly say the replacement motor was a 356. I asked for the casting numbers (or any other numbers he saw) and a view to try to see the plumbing fix described by Howard56. I got the attached pictures in return. He didn't exert himself on the casting number...

Valuation impact of an engine swap

New to the Packard world and getting close to making an offer in a 1940 1803 Super Eight Club Sedan. The car had an engine swap by a previous owner and I need to factor that into my price offer. The current owner stated it now has a 1949 motor (I'll probably need more help validating that later). Al...

Re: Looking for identification help

Don, Just circling back to let you know you were spot on with your assessment of the model. The seller confirmed it is indeed an 1803. the web listing site did not give him the option of choosing an 1803 so he just selected the 1807 to get the listing out. Thanks again for your help. My query exerci...

Thanks for the quick reply and helpful information. This gives me a good starting point to get me and the seller on the same page and avoid any misunderstandings.

Looking for identification help

Hello folks. New to this forum and hoping to become a first time Packard owner if all goes well, but having some trouble identifying a car I'm interested in. Seller identifies it as a 1940 1807 Super Eight 160 Club Sedan but, if I understand the reference material I looked at, the 1807 goes with the...
