Re: 5 26 sedan oil capacity how much and what 10-40??

Rather than going through the dance of dropping the pan, would not several flushes with kerosene serve the same purpose ?

OIL PLUG GASKET

Changing oil on the '29 and wonder if a new copper drain plug gasket will be necessary.
Old one seems to be OK, but wonder if was originally a "crush" design.

1929 Transmission Noise in Second Gear

Although running smoothly in first and third gears, my transmission shifter actually vibrates in second.

I realize that a transmission "whine" is normal in this series, the fact that I can feel a vibration in the stick leads me to believe that a bearing might have failed.

Any ideas ?

Re: Correct Pump Packing

Dave

One more question...

Should the packing be cut into small sections, and then installed as a series of washers might be, or as a spiral fit ?

Correct Pump Packing

Need to know the most effective water pump packing for my 640.

The adjusting nut seems to be at the end of the travel. .

water pump lubrication

I can not locate a lubrication fitting on my 640 straight eight. Is the water pump bearing self lubricated,or am I overlooking something ?

Re: 1929 640 Antifreeze

Dave

Thank you for the input. I must caution you however, that the Peak Sierra ( which is green in color ) is not the original product, but a new creation based upon propylene glycol technology.

Still searching for the correct anti freeze, containing sulphates and silica.
