Suggest, before going any further, to check the compression on all cylinders. If the engines been sitting for a while could be stuck valves which is a relatively common happening. If compression is low squirt a little oil into each cylinder and test again. If compression remains low would indicate i...

The Model Info Listing on the PackardInfo Site says this: ... model=1381 . A 303 body identifies as 1927.

If the trans/OD unit will bolt up to the bellhousing another consideration, besides shortening the drive shaft, would be whether there is sufficient room in the X member for the extra length of the OD to fit without major chassis surgery.
