Re: UK - Based 1941 110 Touring Sedan Deluxe RHD

KINGPIN REPLACEMENTS My Garage 'guy' has finally managed to get a slot for my 110 to get onto his lift to start some much-needed mechanical refurbishment. First Job is to fit new front kingpin and wheel bearings to help dial-out some of the front end slack in the steering. I already have excellent k...

Re: 1941 Front Suspension Kingpins

Hey Adam - great to hear from you & hope all is well with you. Good advice -fortunately I already have a kit for the kingpins, and my garage has a set of adjustable reamers that cover the necessary diameter range, so that seems OK. What we are stuck with until we disassemble the units on the car are...

Re: 1941 Front Suspension Kingpins

Hi Dave, Many thanks for that - in fact I do have a copy of the Owners Manual and as you say there is just a little information on my task. I was hoping there may be a separate service manual or bulletin but cant find one - I just have the engine service manual and the various bulletins on things li...

As part of my 110 recommissioning for the road, I'm about to dismantle & replace the old kingpins, bushes, bearings etc. Can anybody direct me to any advice or guidance on how to do this properly please ?

Many thanks in anticipation.

STEERING COLUMN - UPDATE Having surprisingly had no responses to my multiple please for 'help' through the forum, generally a guaranteed source of information, I gave up and took the column to a local engineer who is older than god. He had a 'fiddle', and solved the problem in 10 minutes. The pin th...

1941 110 - STEERING COLUMN GEARCHANGE

Back to the Future Well, after a two-year break to deal with 'other stuff', I'm back to working on my beloved Packard, which now entails dealing with the many loose ends I had after I first got it on the road, and dealing with the various mechanical flaws that driving it revealed. One of the big iss...

Re: UK - Based 1941 110 Touring Sedan Deluxe RHD

STILL STRUGGLING WITH STEERING COLUMN I simply can't find a way to remove the sliding pin that goes through the column and the detent (see pics). it seems to be a single shaft that funs through the detent, but with a different and larger section in the middle, which runs through a slot in the column...

Re: UK - Based 1941 110 Touring Sedan Deluxe RHD

Hi Adam, Great to hear from you, and many thanks for your response: you make some very useful points. Firstly, re. the clutch mechanism, you've really got me thinking. I was originally thinking that the actuator arm had been 'spaced out' as it is because maybe the clutch was nearing the end of its l...
