Re: 19?? Packard 30 7 passenger touring

No. Definitely not a Packard. Winton, maybe? There are only 12 Model 30 Packards known to exist, which were built between 1907 and 1912. I think there is only one true 7-passenger touring known to exist, which was originally purchased by Jacob Ruppert, owner of Ruppert Brewery and the New York Yanke...

Pushing to a start may not happen if you have overdrive engaged, so if your car is equipped with overdrive, make sure it's disengaged. Otherwise you'll be freewheeling.

Re: Vacuum from fuel pump question....

Before sending your wiper motor out for repair, make sure your linkage is clean. My wipers did not work at all until I cleaned the old, old, old gunk off and lubricated the linkage. Also, try a cocktail of lubricant in the wiper motor itself. I believe the recipe can be found somewhere on PackardInf...

Re: Barn Find 1926 Packard/Rolls Royce

Dave No offense intended. None of the factory sales literature that I have between 1928 and 1932 makes mention of the tire pump, either as standard equipment (long list), nor as an option (another long list). The piece I have for 1930 has a special "Mechanical Features" insert, and still no mention,...

Re: Barn Find 1926 Packard/Rolls Royce

Air pump? Nope, I don't think so. Perhaps he meant fuel vacuum pump that ran off of the timing chain???, which the 7th series had. Also, the 7th series intake/exhaust manifolds were separate units. The Johnson carburetors were so bad, they stopped using them before production even ended. I don't thi...

Re: Kanter brothers car collection

The special interior in the Patrician looks to be mouton, which is basically unborn lamb wool. The carpet in my 1940 Packard is made of that. Obviously, this type of material is no longer available. You can still buy clothing items that are labeled as "mouton," but it really isn't. If it doesn't hav...

Re: 1941 hood latch

I always press down on the hood while pulling the latch. That seems to relieve a little pressure... at least, I think it does.

I don't have a sign for you, but I'd love to know which building you're restoring (what city?).

Re: 1941 side grills

I've seen cases where the recesses are body color, but I believe the most common is black, semi gloss.
