oil leaks

I recently had the motor on my 47 clipper rebuilt. It sounds fine, except for a miss which I think a ordinary tune up will fix. I also have a problem with oil leaks. I don't think the person doing the overhaul did anything wrong. He has been doing this for years and has a good reputation. Has anyone...

Re: leaking around head bolts

I didn't expect this process to be easy, but it is getting sort of discouraging. I have given up on getting the current generator to work, and have ordered an alternator. Hopefully when it is installed, that will correct that problem. I don't understand why it is so difficult to stop the various oil...

Re: leaking around head bolts

another question. I have an after market 6 volt ammeter. If I connect it to the two terminals on the factory installed one, will I get a good reading? The ammeter I have is new old stock and has never been used. I don't remember the brand.

Re: leaking around head bolts

thanks for the reply. I will try your test for the electrical system. I need to look into the oil leak some more, but I don't think it is coming from the top of the engine. from the color of the oil, I suspect it is from the transmission, but not sure about that. There definitely is a problem with t...

Re: leaking around head bolts

I have used Teflon tape for years on just about everything to stop leaks. I didn't suggest using it on this motor, but it didn't seem strange to me. I imagine the idea was that if you stop the leak at the bottom of the stud there would not be a leak. Obviously it didn't work in this case. I will ret...

Re: leaking around head bolts

As far as running time is concerned, the car is not running properly due to what I think is an electrical problem, so it has been run only a few hours, not over 3 or 4 at most, so I should be ok there. I don't think anything has been put on the head bolts, except for some Teflon tape on the bottom t...

leaking around head bolts

I just had the motor on my 47 Clipper rebuilt. I told the Mechanic he needed to use gasket sealer around the head bolts to prevent leaks. As usual with mechanics, he assumed he knew a lot more than I did, and only put thread sealer on the bolts. I now have a leak around several of the head bolts. I ...

Re: 6 volt alternator

I understand that in general cars with factory installed generators had no problems. I remember them very well. The first car I ever drove was a 1946 Chrysler, so I am familiar with generators. The problem with them is that if you have any problems with your car you can kill the battery very quickly...

Re: 6 volt alternator

I am having a problem with the generator on my car. Since I am going to be forced to do something, I thought it would make sense to change to a alternator. I'm old enough to remember when the change was made from generators to alternators. Alternators are better. I know nothing about electricity, bu...

6 volt alternator

I would like to replace the generator on my 47 clipper with an alternator. some time ago I saw an advertisement for one on the internet, but at the time I wasn't interested. Now I would like to order one, but can't find the site. Can anyone help?
