Re: 1950 Packard width

BTW Spartan, where are you located? I just bought a 1950 Deluxe 8 I'll be working on. Maybe we're close enough to get together. I'm in North Central Indiana. Gene

Re: 1950 Packard width

I would budget at least 80 inches from widest point to widest point at the fender. I have been looking at car haulers and just measured my 1950 Super 8. It is 67" from the outside of the wheels and 80" at the widest point where the wheel well on a trailer would be a danger. It also measured about 18...

Re: Compression results on 1930 Packard Standard Eight

What does 4 show? Also, how did the plugs look in the 1, 2, and 3 cylinders? Were they oily looking like you were not getting fire to them? You might want to check the torque on the head to be sure it is correct also according to specs. Be sure to check it in the correct sequence in the manual so yo...

Re: Tune-up information please

Dave, I plan to put a little ATF in the cylinders and let it set for a while until my parts come in. I'll add a gallon of gas to the gas tank and then shake the car up some and let it settle and then drain the gas tank and see if I get water and trash out of it or if I get clean gas out. I'll also d...

Tune-up information please

I'm getting ready to tune up a 1950 Deluxe 8 I just bought. The Super 8 is on hold until the Deluxe 8 is running as a daily driver in a month or so and I'd like to get some input as to the better place to purchase parts. I know about Kanter and Max Merrit Auto but can some of these tune up parts be ...

Re: Lubricant Recommendations

I was just reading the Owners Manual for the Series 23 and Packard recommends dropping the oil pan once a year and cleaning it. And, you have to remove some of the linkage to do so if my brief forage beneath the engine told me enough to be useful. Oh well, Gene

Re: Help with Firewall Number on 1950 PLEASE!

No problem Dave! Go to the main site, then click on Reference, then click on Production Statistics, and under that look at Model and Body Styles by Year and click and 1950. Now look at the Super 8 only and it shows "2382 Su8 Sedan 4722 (all Su8 and Su Deluxe 8 combined)". I would link you to it but ...

Re: Help with VIN with no Year

Thanks Dave! It is being advertised as a 1950 and that is what threw me off. That PLUS I am still unfamiliar with the VIN system for these cars. I didn't realize that the blank in the middle would mean it was a 49 model. OK, that will give me something more to bargain with if I decide I've got enoug...

Help with VIN with no Year

Hello everyone, I’ve come upon another Packard for sale that is giving me a problem with the VIN#. The number is 2395- -3244. There is no number between the 2395 and the 3244 to determine the year but I know it is a 23rd Series. I'm sure that the 23 is the Series and that the 5 means that it is a Cl...
