Re: Can you identify this car?

Don, Yes, the plastic Packard coat of arms was at least officially put on the grille in 1952. I have heard some people swear that their 1951 Packard had one but they were definitely the exception rather than the rule. Perhaps a dealer upgrade. That plus, as Dave pointed out, 1951 Packards had Packar...

Re: Can you identify this car?

Looks to me like a '52 since it appears to have had a plastic Packard crest in the middle of the grille and those generally were on '52s and forward and not on '51s. My best guess.

Re: Radial Tires for 53 Packard 400

Doesn't the Packard Club take off points in judging if radials are used, as they are not original? Might this not be a concern if entering the car in judging is intended?

Re: A good book.

I agree that Turnquist's book and the Kimes book are both excellent. I also like Nathaniel Dawes' The Packard 1942-1962. It covers the postwar models much more thoroughly than Turnquist's book and has some differences from the Kimes' book. Only problem is the Dawes book is no longer in print so you ...

Re: Dash lights too dim, '48 Custom

Don't know for sure about 48-50 but on my 53 if you turn the headlight switch knob to the right instrument lights got dimmer and to the left they got brighter. So you might want to play with your headlight switch knob and see if that does anything. Maybe someone with 48 Custom experience can address...

Re: Someone near Atlanta that is qualified to work on Model 733

Hi Amberly French, I live near Atlanta but unfortunately do not know of anyone qualified to work on a Packard that old. (Mine is a 53.) I will send you a private message with the phone numbers of some Peachstate Packards contacts who might be able to help. We are having a meet this weekend, our annu...

Re: 1947 Clipper convertible sedan by Derham

I hate having to disagree with someone as knowledgeable as Dwight but this is one of the few areas in which I may have superior knowledge. Have been friends with Charlie Hebb since the early 1970's. He got me into the Packard Club and was and is the heart and soul of Georgia's Peachstate Packards, n...

Re: difficulty cranking rebuilt Packard engine on 6 volt battery

Maybe I am stating the obvious, but I am very good at overlooking the obvious myself, so consider it a reflection on me rather than on you. Have you checked the 6 volt battery?

Re: 53 Clipper Super, 327, where does the fuel filter go?

I checked my 53 Clipper Deluxe and am a bit embarassed to admit that it does not have a fuel filter either, so I am in the same boat as you. However, I have the advantage of having previously owned the same model as my first car early in the 70's and that it what I recalled. I also have a picture ta...

Re: 53 Clipper Super, 327, where does the fuel filter go?

I have a 53 Clipper Deluxe with a 327. The fuel filter is a glass bowl type with a ceramic element and it is on the line between the fuel pump and carburetor, closer to the carburetor, parallel to and alongside the engine. If you want specific measurements, let me know and I will see what I can do. ...
