Re: 1937 Packard 115 Business Coupe Barn Rescue

First of all run down to Hershey for the swap meet and find the air cleaner you need. You can probably get the tires at Hershey as well. Then clean up everything. If someone locally can steam clean the undercarriage and engine compartment that will allow you to work more readily, notice lube leaks, e...

'40 Jumps out of high gear

Whether in OD or not (OD not predictably working) when going downhill at any speed over 30 mph the shift lever jumps out of high into neutral. A little pressure on the lever prevents this. All topside adjustments seem to be OK and the top half of the "innards " was replaced a few thousand miles ago....

Re: '40 120 Dash questions

If its the same as my '40 Super 8 (which I believe it is) the wood graining is correct. The dashboard comes out in one piece and it is necessary to first remove the windsields surround to expose the screws. There are also attaching screws under the lower lip of the dashboard. If your woodgraining is...

Re: 56 Patrician

If you are anywhere near the midwest I highly recommend "Schultz's Classic Cars" in Silex, Mo., (about half way between St. Louis and Hannibal). They restored my '40 limo and are especiallyl noted for their body and paint work. They will do it the way you want and are very good about communication. ...

Re: Should I or shouldn't I?

Why not? It's worth more than that if you part it out. But Hershey is coming up shortly and My bet is on that youj will find the missing parts with little trouble.

You should also check with Gerry Perschbacher (listed in the directory). He has more information on this place than you can sdhake several sticks at.

Re: later model power brake clyinder on Packard

While I can't answer your question I can say that the brakes on my '40 limo are fine. Aside from the normal adjustments and such(and I'm assuming your brakes are the same as mine) the primary and secondary shoes are the same size which was not standard industry practice but the way the car came. Pro...

Re: Fuel Delivery Problem?

Others will be able to tell you more about fuel pump rebuilding than I. But at the recent national meet my '40 Su 8 had severe fuel delivery problems. Even a new electric pump did not help. The culprit proved to be the union where the main fuel line joins the tank pick up. Air was being sucked into ...

Re: Clutch problem

There was no separate manual for the 1940 cars. The owner's ma nua (preliminary shop manual) showed the changes from 1939 so that would bethe manual toconsult. Motor manual and Chilton's are also helpful.

Re: Packard straight 8 upgrades

If you are "going through" the engine you should certainly balance all moving parts and use exact blueprint specs. You can also polish valve ports and I found, much to my surprise, that my '40 limo has a lot more pep with a high compression head.
