Re: Radiator Re-Core

Flackmaster, thank you for the response and for the offer - before I go back to my radiator repair person I want to verify that you will you sell me a re-cored 1937 Packard 120C radiator, tanks in good shape, for $900 plus shipping. I suspected that the $1900 price was too high.

Thanks
Dwight

Radiator Re-Core

I have removed the radiator from my '37 120C (really in bad shape) and the radiator shop (old shop with a good reputation) says it needs to be re-cored. While I am not surprised does $1900 sound reasonable?

Thanks
Dwight

Re: Exhaust manifold Plug

Thanks Dave, I have a copy of the 1937-38 Shop Manual and while pages 54-55 discusses the choke valve thermostat setting it really does not show how it links up to the carb. I looked in my copy of the 1935-51 Motor' Auto Repair Manual and on page 167 they show a view of how the choke thermostat link...

Re: Exhaust manifold Plug

Thanks Dave, no sign of an automatic choke on my Stromberg EE-14. The cup just fell out after the manifold got up in temp - I suppose due to differential expansion of the thick manifold compared to the thin steel cup. I have not found any photos that show the original set-up but there appears to be ...

Exhaust manifold Plug

Today I woke the old girl ('37 120C) up after being asleep for 15 years. A lot of fits and starts (10 minutes) along with back firing through the carb before the valves calmed down. The engine purred like a kitten - smooth and quiet - 35 psi oil pressure at fast idle then the "plug" in the exhaust m...

Re: Heat Riser Valve

Don thank you for the response and info. I will remove the spring, heat both ends of the shaft with a torch and try to turn clockwise as viewed from the spring side.

Re: Heat Riser Valve

I am still trying to free up my corroded/frozen heat riser valve (15 years been sitting-up). I have applied PB Blaster, WD-40, and now daily treatments with 50/50 mix of auto-trans fluid and acetone. Next week, after cleaning area, I will apply heat with my torch. I do not know if it is frozen open ...
