Re: 1949 Packard Custon 8 Interior
That number corresponds to a 22nd Series 1949 vehicle. I'll check Bob Neal's book later to see if its a factory renumbered 1948 leftover.

Re: 1949 Packard Custon 8 Interior
Very interesting, I've owned a few Custom Eights and never seen such tags. Hope someone has an answer for you!
Unclear as to the identification of your Custom 8, is it a 22nd 1949 or a 23rd series 1949?

Re: Membership roster
The telephone # for the VP for Rosters is listed prominently in your monthly bulletin, sounds like you should give him a call.

Re: 10% kerosene/non-ethanol gas mix
Well, we all know what the issues are, today's gasoline is just more volatile than what our old buggies were designed for. But I'd think measures like you ask about really shouldn't be necessary unless you're experiencing equatorial heat. Is a heat shield installed around the fuel pump? Does the pum...

Re: 1950 Packard 288 distributor service.
Hi Carl: There are literally dozens of reasons a car overheats, and more often than not the problem may be the result of several, there are some comprehensive lists of these reasons elsewhere on this site. But for starters, as a car ages, the cooling system begins to degrade as very slowly mineral d...

Pat you might note that a 1401 is an Eight, not a Super Eight.

Hi Fred: Congratulations on your collection of 22nd Series Packard convertible victorias! Clearly from your questions you would benefit immensely from reading Bob Neal's book on the 22nd-23rd Series Packards and the answers to your questions (and more) are found there, especially his notes on the ea...

Re: stalling
Unless you were driving on a blistering hot day or under very stressfull (for example, lots of lower gear hill climbing) conditions, your stated temperature translates to me to modest overheating - the boiling point of water is only a few degrees higher, 212. That plus the increased volatility of to...

Re: Heater control valve
Since the heater itself was an accessory and not standard equipment, the valve is probably listed with the accessory equipment section of the parts list. And your looks like a later generic replacement, not the original. Modern replacements are commonly available. Or you can disassemble and service ...

Re: Large green box on 1934 Twelve motor
If there is a coolant line entering but no oil lines entering and exiting it, then it's the radiator overflow reserve tank, a feature unique to the Twelve. I thought the radiator overflow tank was attached to the frame rail and not the motor itself, but my memory could be failing me on that point.
