Oil pan, drain pug.

Post by 51Packman300 » Mon Mar 09, 2020 12:12 pm

I'm in need of the torque specs for the oil pan and oil drain plug. And the torque sequence for the pan for my 51 Packard 300. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Any recommendations on oil also?

Here are pan torque specs from the 51-4 service manual. Any others you may need are in the specifications section of the manual. If you don't have a printed copy you can downloaded all or part from the literature section at www.packardinfo.com. I don't recall ever seeing a tightening sequence for anything other than the head so don't believe there is one for the pan.

One thing you should check for is that any pan bolts being overtightened have not deformed the holes along the sheet metal flange so the gasket cannot make a good seal. Use a straight edge along the surface that mates to the block and tap down any holes that are raised enough a gap would be present and keep the gasket from pressing against the block between holes.
