u-joint

Post by lc3packs » Mon Oct 03, 2011 12:07 pm

Does anyone have a modern number for a front u joint for a 47 Custom Super Clipper model 2106. It has the original 356 and overdrive if that matters. I would like to buy one locally if I have a good number. Thanks, Tommy

If you're talking about the Universal slip joint for the 41-47 Clipper with OD, it is listed as #364855 yoke and 382742 repair kit in the Hollander Exchange. They also note that it cannot be separated without ruining the seal. Additionally, they note that I. Harvester #65345R-91 will also fit. They use it on their feed grinder. Who would have guessed? Also, according to the Drive shaft interchange the shaft is the same length for the 41-42, 51, and 53 with OD for the Rear Shaft compressed. I hope this helps you out a little, Gene

Thanks Gene. I will take those numbers to one of the parts stores locally to see if they can help. Tommy

Tommy, glad you got some help on the u-joint. Mike asked me, and I asked around, but no one could help. Please let us know when you find a joint. Many of us 2106 owners are interested.

The repair kit is $125 from Max Merritt. This is a local company that specializes in Packard parts. They are out of the office this week (Hershey) but will be back next week. I've always found them helpful and competitive. I have no financial interests in the company but since they are close to me and I do business with them I thought I'd look and see if they had the part. There it was with the exact part number! Hey, tell them I sent you and maybe they'll give me a discount on future parts. :-) Gene House

Upon closer examination, The u joint itself seemed ok but the retaining clip on the end of the drive shaft had slipped down allowing grease to be flung everywhere. Looks like it had been off befroe and we could not get it to seal right. Did get a new retaianing clip from max and the felt gasket. Back together now. I still would like a good number on the u joint itself to see if i copuild get one locally and throw on my parts shelf. Tommy
