Looking for 1936 120B wiper arms to purchase

Post by dgpnaples » Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:45 am

I am looking to buy a pair of correct windshield wiper arms for my car. I have posted a picture of what they look like.

Any leads or anyone willing to sell me a pair can PM me. Thank you, Dean.

Did you try Ficken Wiper Service (www.wiperman.com)?

No I haven't called Wiperman but I will now.

Dave, do you know if the bumpers on my 36 120B are interchangable? My 36 front bumper has a Packard nameplate set in the middle of the bumper. I have attached a photo of the exact same nameplate on the rear bumper of a 36 120B, which is for sale on Hemmings this month.

So I was wondering if my front bumper was placed incorrectly or the one on Hemmings installed incorrectly?

Please advise, thank you.

Front and rear bumpers are not the same.

The definitive study of details for the 35-37 junior cars is the publication "THE PRODUCTION PACKARD 1935-1937, A Restoration Reference" by Darvin Kuehl. It's out of print but if you're interested in correct details, try to find a copy.

Having owned an original 1937 Packard 120 for 29 years, I can tell you that the bumper with the Packard nameplate is the rear bumper. Photos I've seen of 1936 120's also show the nameplate on the rear bumper only.

Don, thanks for the comment on the bumper. I have owned my car for 2 years and until I saw photos of other 36 Packard 120 for sale, I took notice of the nameplate location.

I have also ordered the book which Dave recommended and will have it next week to reference.

So it appears that my Packard 120 has the rear bumper with the nameplate attached incorrectly to the front of the car. And I have to say that the front bumper always appeared to be tight to the fenders but I never really gave it a thought of it being put on incorrectly, until I saw the same car for sale on Hemmings last week.

So looks like I have a small project planned for the switch of my bumpers.

Thanks.

The pictured car is almost correct. While the arms do have the triangular end, they are a replacement clip on style. The correct OEM Trico arms are attached to the post through the arm with a domed acorn nut.
Note also the wiper blade which has accommodation for the wire from the body mounted tab to slide into.
Definitely call Rob Ficken and see if he has any correct parts - they are exceptionally rare and will not be inexpensive.
Concurrently, I will pull out my box of wiper stuff and see what I have - I know I have some, just maybe not a complete set (arms, blades, nuts, wires, grommets) . Lemme know what you find. DAF

Glad to have been of help. I'm sure you'll find the fit to be much better when you move that bumper to the rear.
