Looking for identification help

Post by 58survivor » Mon Jul 01, 2019 5:57 pm

Hello folks. New to this forum and hoping to become a first time Packard owner if all goes well, but having some trouble identifying a car I'm interested in. Seller identifies it as a 1940 1807 Super Eight 160 Club Sedan but, if I understand the reference material I looked at, the 1807 goes with the 180 not the 160. I could easily be mistaken given the complexities of the Packard numbering schemes, so I was hoping someone here could assist. Before I get serious about the car, I'd like to know what I'm really looking at. Vehicle number is shown as I37b-2I58. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I think there are a couple of errors at play here. The 1940 160's were assigned Models 1803 (127" wheelbase,) 1804 (138" wheelbase) and 1805 (148" wheelbase.) In the Model 1803 line the Club Sedan was assigned the body number 1376. Model 1807 (138" wheelbase) is a Custom Super Eight 180; there were no club sedans offered in this model. So the car in question is most likely a Model 1803 with a corrected Vehicle Number 1376-2158. A check of the wheelbase will confirm this information. Best of luck in your pursuit and we hope purchase of this Club Sedan.

Thanks for the quick reply and helpful information. This gives me a good starting point to get me and the seller on the same page and avoid any misunderstandings.

Don,
Just circling back to let you know you were spot on with your assessment of the model. The seller confirmed it is indeed an 1803. the web listing site did not give him the option of choosing an 1803 so he just selected the 1807 to get the listing out. Thanks again for your help. My query exercise with the seller can now start.

Just got what I am told is a 1956 Packard Clipper Custom.
How do I find out what to original color the paint is and what the color of the interior is supposed to be?
