Packmesiter, just to clarify, can you confirm that your car was both sold in Canada and also Canadian-built?

Here's a comment from a Packard historian who specializes in documents: I believe that the sticker was a temporary tag brought with the car for its normal 250-mile Proving Grounds "test", which was conducted on all Twelves. At completion, a certificate was issued with the car for the owner, certifying that the test had been done, and that all was found to be OK. I have one of these certificates (from a 12th Series Twelve) signed by Tommy Milton and Charley Vincent - would be glad to send a copy, if you would like.

Can you post a photo of the patent plate (a/k/a vehicle number plate)? Images of both the Canadian and Detroit plates for 1934 are attached.

I can't confirm it was sold there but the tag is exactly like the one you show here from Winsor. I will take a pic of the tag and post it. So if it was made in Canada would they have shipped it back to proving grounds or was this test done in Canada at another test sight?

Thanks for the confirmation of the Windsor assembly. And your car is a conventional left-hand-drive model, correct? (Pardons if I've asked before).

I'm not a native of the area but have visited; I'd think the distances to the Utica Proving Grounds weren't much different for either the Detroit or Windsor plants so just speculating, I'd think the test drives were at Utica regardless of the manufacturing plant. I don't have any idea how many Twelves were built in Ontario, but I'd think VERY VERY few.

Though it's from 1937, I'm attaching an article from the Canadian Auto Trader which may interest you; it indicates the degree of Canadian sourcing of parts which was important in allowing the Canadian-built cars to be exported to Commonwealth countries with a less onerous import tax than for U.S. production. How the sourcing might have differed in 1934 for a Twelve is an interesting question.

I have a 1934 Twelve catalog. I am going to dig it out to see 734 and 735.
And shame on those picking on my namesake - reading upside down, indeed.

Packmeister, your interest in the test certificates from the Proving Grounds got my interest as I've never seen one. Here's one for a 1935 Twelve, the document courtesy of Mr. Jim Balfour.
