1937 1508 information request via theft proof number

Post by vernz37 » Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:31 am

I have a new to me 1937 1508 twelve and was wondering if there might be any information about the car available from the theft proof number. I've attached pictures of the theft proof number, which I'm reasonably certain is 307334 (camera battery was too low to use flash). The patent plate number is 1034-333. The patent plate is a replacement with a 1 rather than I stamp. I have the original patent plate but it has a large hole drilled in it for some reason and I guess one of the previous owners did not want that. I've also included an overall view of the car. It was a CCCA first place senior winner in 1993.

Thanks, Vern

Chances are good that the hole in the original plate was the result of a careless mechanic drilling a hole in the cowl from the inside to mount some accessory like a radio or heater, unfortunately it's something we see all too often.

Your replica patent plate is not correct for your car, it's the style used for 1933 and early 1934. For your car the text portion should reference 1400 patents, not 1100. (Correction: should read Thirteen Hundred Fifty" patents).

I've got fairly substantial files indexed by theft-proof number and have no information on your vehicle. If you're a member of The Packard Club you might consider contacting the Roster Keeper for your year and model.

Thank you Dave, I appreciate you checking for me. I would not have thought that it would win a CCCA senior first place with the wrong patent plate. FYI I've attached a picture of the original plate. I think I would prefer to have the correct plate installed even with the hole in it.
