G'day Gerry,

Tried to do a little Internet sleuthing by going to Google Maps and searching for 205 State Street Hackensack NJ which is the address given in the DL on PackardInfo for Sproat and Dunn. http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modul ... hp?ID=1807

Appears the Hackensack Fire Dept is at that address, also shows a pic of the Fire House. Probably preaching to the converted here, but have you gone directly to the Fire House? Maybe they have some historical photos of the address before it became the Fire House? Or tried the archives in the municipal library? Or local museums or historical societies?

Thanks Mal.I tried local historical society.I even contacted the local newspaper which from the twenties to about 2003 was located in the city of Hackensack.Again no luck.I might try the firehouse.Couldn't hurt.

A grainy old aerial photo of the Sproat & Dunn dealership in Hackensack, NJ, immediately to the left of the firehouse. It was later Gatti Motors, a Chrysler/Plymouth dealership.

I think I saw a photo of S & D in the dealer service letters. They often featured a couple of dealerships
per issue. It might take a while to dig thru the pile but I think it was in the 1940s. I'll put it on the
"to do" list.

Did you find out where the old newspaper files went? Maybe another paper has their old files, or maybe a university?

What about the library?

The Bergen Record is still in business and they have their archives. The main library in Hackensack had nothing. The picture Dave posted was the one I obtained from the city historian. Its not very good.

I just purchased a 1936 Match book cover with advertising by Sproat and Dunn in Hackensack. It actually has a picture of the dealership on it.I hope to have it posted as soon as it is received.
