Packard Liberty V-12 TAG

Post by PACKARDAPL » Fri May 30, 2014 6:22 pm

Recently I got a scan of a Packard V-12 "Liberty" model aircraft engine ID tag. This type motor is believed
to be one produced for the US Army. Note that it says; "NOT TO BE FLOWN"--for some reason. Perhaps this
was a prototype with some mechanical innovation or had some defect that made it unsuitable for flying, but
valuable enough for on-the-ground training purposes. The US naval variant has a somewhat different Packard
motor tag. (I have one) It is amazing what can turn up; even after almost a 100 years. Packard number tag
