Ok finally got some pictures. The engine number I suppose is on top of the head 389721 and has a larger 288 after it.

That number on the head is a casting number and not an engine #, and the 288 is the displacement size of the engine the head came from which may or may not be the original. The engine # is on the driver's side of the engine. Sorry, no help on the value.

Driver's side of the engine. As I recall it's above and perhaps a bit rearward of the generator.

Anyone with an approximate value/ guess (educated or otherwise) on this one?

The casting on the head is 288. Does that mean that it has the wrong engine in it, and are the heads interchangeable with a 282?

Look on the floorboard on the passenger side. The Henney tag was generally tacked to the wood. If the wood is gone the tag probably went with it. I found the one for my 40 in the glove box. Thank goodness someone saved it. Mike

282 and 288 cylinder heads are NOT interchangeable.
