1927 Packard 433 ambulance

Post by 433ambulance » Mon Mar 02, 2015 12:13 pm

Originally donated to the Detroit Fire Department in1927, I am currently restoring this vehicle. It was featured in an article in the PCS publication Number 63, first quarter, 1992. Custom body on 433 Six chassis. No labels to determine who built the body? Can anyone help?

A picture might help but there were so many ambulance and hearse coachbuilders that it may be very difficult if not impossible to determine. You might visit www.coachbuilt.com and check under ambulance/hearse and commercial body builders to see if you see anything similar.

Dave. This is the ambulance in1927. I looked at the list of coach builders. Had no idea there were so many.
The body was transformed in 1937 to a searchlight function. Side windows removed and roof lowered by 9 inches. All wood needs to be replaced due to severe degradation and to regain the original configuration. Down to the frame. engine being rebuilt. A long project, but I think worthwhile given its unique history.
