Essay on the history of automobile/Packard

Post by clipper56 » Sun Nov 15, 2015 9:03 am

Hi,
I hope everyone is doing well, for a history project I have to write a five page essay on a topic relating to U.S. history. I chose the history of the automobile and it had to be a specific company I chose Packard. One thing I have to do is come up with eight different sources online and I was able to find four and I am having trouble finding more about the company what I have now is about the plant in Detroit, Some of the cars Packard produced, A video about the company and a background about the brothers. Does anyone know where I can get more information on the company.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.

Not sure what would be acceptable as a source but there is a page of Packard info on Wiki.

There are several blogs or commentaries online by people doing restoration of individual cars. Here is one example. http://northwestrestorations.com/restorations.html

The restoration page linked above also has a couple of links to other sites which has Packard info although I didn't really look at them to see if it was of much use. There are also some sites which have copies of old ads or brochures such as this one. http://www.lov2xlr8.no/packard.html Other sites such as the Packard library have a bit of original factory info. http://thepackardlibrary.com/default.html but a considerable amount more can be found at http://www.packardinfo.com.

Hi Clipper56

I would recommend you look into the many extensive Packard histories published, all readily available. They may be more in depth than you need but may spark interest in a specific aspect of the rich history. Check the Bookshelf here and PackardInfo.com for the titles. Filling five pages will be very easy even if you select just one aspect such as their WWII contributions to the war effort, the company's formation and early years, their struggle with survival during the Depression, etc. Good luck with your research and keep us posted on your progress, perhaps share what you've written.

Steve
