packard wire wheels

Post by packard1801 » Sat Aug 20, 2011 9:09 am

does anyone have proof that wire wheels were offered as a non-factory accessory for pre-war junior series cars in the 30"s -50"s OR are they purely a modern time accessory?

The last factory-official spoked wire wheel prior to the 1953 Caribbean was the 1936 Senior series, Eight, Super Eight & Twelve. Review of the parts listings confirm this. Anything in between is just fulfilling some owner's fancy, a one-off custom being a possible exception.

Thanks Dave, I am sure the FACTORY did not provide wires for pre-war juniors, but maybe some body like Western Auto etc. might have .Is this possible, and is ther any proof of such? Bill

I suppose it's possible; certainly there were custom wheel manufacturers back then just as there are today.
