Seat belts for a 1934 Packard 1100

Post by Payneangelfire » Wed May 12, 2021 1:22 pm

Gentlemen and Ladies,
As the new owner of a 1934 Packard 1100 I want to drive her as much as possible. But I noticed she does not have seat belts which were not required in 1934. I am concerned that if I add seatbelts that I would be committing a cardinal sin and be cast out from the Packard Club. Would seatbelts count off in a classic car show? Do 1934 Packards have seat belts? Is there a Packard seatbelt available or will any seatbelt be ok to use? Installation would be easy since the front seats are easily removed to access the frame for anchoring the seat belt. Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

John, you kind of surprise me - it wasn't until the mid-1950s that seatbelts began to be available as options and many more years before they became federally mandated.

None of the major clubs will deduct judging points for seatbelts in older cars as long as they are installed in a workmanlike manner. If you decide to install them (i chose to maintain originality and not install them) try Google, dozens of sources for generic seat kits.
