'29,'33,'34 & '37 Packards, CA auction 2-7-15

Post by 5682-4775 » Tue Feb 03, 2015 3:47 pm

Hi

This California auction includes a '29 626 sedan, a '33 Eight club sedan, a '34 Twelve 1108 sedan and a '37 Twelve 1506 sedan as well as a '29 Stutz M club sedan and others. The photos are a bit mismatched but worth a look.

Buy yourself a good Packard if you can!

I am particularly interested in the 34 8 club sedan listed in the above auction, but being rather new to Packards, I don't have a clue to the value. Please help. I tried to attach some more pictures (I just came from looking at the car) but the files are too big and I don't know how to compress them. The car looks complete; decent interior, no major dents, no apparent rust. Description says it doesn't run but I believe its just been setting since 2008- last year it was registered. The vin tag on the firewall was stamped 627 I8 with 2-11-33 stamped below that.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Hi Dave,
The more info I get about the cars in this auction the more confusing it gets. Firstly, the auction has the years flip-flopped for the '33 and '34 Packards. By the front fenders, the Twelve is a 1934 or 11th series and the Eight is a 1933 or 10th series Packard. The second confusing bit of information is on the data plate as you've reported it. The 2-11-33 delivery date is consistent with the 10th series, which was in production from 1-5-33 to 8-21-33. But the 627 indicates the car should be a convertible victoria, not a club sedan. Packard assigned the number 616 to the club sedan body on the 136" wheelbase model 1002 Eights. So the car has the wrong data plate. This severely affects its value as the car's data plate has to be considered as missing. I don't know how you could get that car legally titled. As it stands right now, it's not much more than a parts car. I'd be reluctant to bid on this one at all, I'm sorry to tell you. All I can say to you is best of luck and caveat emptor.

All I'm aware of personally is that the 33 has a vehicle number that doesn't match the body style, so let the buyer beware on that one.

They brought a lot of $$ for not running cars and mismatched data plates.

I noticed the 37 and the 33 popping back up on the Web for sale. I can't remember where I saw the 37 but the 33 is on ebay:
