Looking for 1935 standard 8 coupe

Post by itdmachinist » Wed Apr 11, 2018 5:21 pm

I am looking for my grandfathers 1935 standard eight coupe. It is white with red wire wheels and side mounts. See attached image.

If you have any information I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking to buy it or really just keep track of its location.

Thanks,

Brian

I just love that body style

Vehicle number? Or any numbers from it? It will be difficult to track without at least some of the numbers.

White was not an available stock color so there's a good chance if it fell into the hands of someone who favored authenticity, it would no longer be white.

I know the guy who purchased from my uncle, I will ask him about the numbers. He does not have the info on who it sold it to unfortunately.

I think the data plate said it was purchased from Hudson NY.

How nice to have the VN!

I hope the following is helpful to you.

1. You called it a "standard eight" but the prefix "standard" was last used in 1932, to be correct the model is simple the "Eight".
2. 818 defines a 1935 Eight on the 1201 (134" wheelbase) chassis and with the 2-4 passenger coupe body.
3. The # following the 818 is the sequential production number starting at 201, so yours is the 63rd Eight coupe made.
4. If Packard had records of how many of each style were made, they haven't survived but an estimate is that 117 1935 Eight coupes were made.
5. Only 4 surviviors are listed in the club directory, one each in Texas, Oregon, Colorado, and Australia. If you're a club member you can contact these folks with the contact info in the club directory, it would not be appropriate for me to give that personal information to a non-member.
6. The owner of the 818 in Texas is a friend if that is of any value to you.

Hope all this helps in your search!

Mine's the Australian one Dave mentioned. 818 220, Detroit factory RHD. Still saving up for restoration. Hope you find your grandfather's car!

Any idea how to find the car If it's not registered on PAC? I confirmed two are not it, the third does not have side mounts. Dave, do you think your friends could be it?

No, it's not the one in Texas. No particular suggestions other than to keep yourself tuned to the market, assuming at some point it may surface.

I own the 35 coupe in Texas. The white coupe with the red sidemounts was for sale in NY a few years ago. I still have the phone number to the seller but I'm not sure if that's the guy who your uncle sold it to. Send me a pm and I'll send you the number.
