Is there a replacement neopreme seal for the straight 8 engines?

Post by kaizmoto1489 » Wed May 12, 2021 10:27 pm

Hi all,
Thought it would be a good idea to put in a new rear main seal at the same time. Removing the old rope seal wasn't a problem, but putting the new one is. I just can't get it to slide in, like it is too big, but I cant get the old one in either.
Have dropped the crank all it wants to do without removing the transmission. The service manual says to remove the transmission, but I want to avoid that. Several years I put in Jack Vines larger oil pump in my 56 clipper with the v-8, and I think I installed a neopreme seal at that time.

You might check out a fairly recent discussion at packardinfo. https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modu ... +main+seal In some of the posts there are links to other older discussions on rear main leaks where neoprene seals may be mentioned. A poster also provided a link to a Chrysler neoprene seal that may work.
