The relay mounts on the firewall between the main loom outlet and the voltage regulator. In place, the cover plate screw is toward the center of the firewall. Terminals 1-3 are on the left numbered top to bottom and 4-6 on the right, also top to bottom. When my OD was not working it turned out the relay had been mounted upside down and therefore completely miswired.

The numbers should be stamped directly on the terminals but may not be visible because of the little sheet metal pieces. In case yours is not stamped, here are a couple of photos.

That's fast work, I can mount it now as the screw location and Delco marking makes it easy.
Thanks guys, owning a Packard is like gaining a family, all you have to do is ask.

I pulled the flex out of the speedo cable and the tip came off, now I'm looking for a replacement.

Thanks for your help,
Bob

On my 41 the relay mounts to the right and above the regulator.

The only fuse in the OD system is 30 amp. Use a metal fuse holder.

As for number 1 on the relay it's bottom left below the bolt that holds the cover. Numbers mite be under the screw washers.

I have a new OD wiring harness and the instructions say to look how the original was installed. I need to know where the wire went through the dash and where the pull lever goes through the dash as my car has never had OD.
Like to have a photo of these items from an original OD car if possible.

I just removed the center aperture and there is room for one more cable, also ran the new elongated speed cable through the hole. I mounted the relay as directed, now all I have to do is get my engine back. I hope all these 73 year old semi electronics have a prayer of working.
Thanks,
Bob

I bought a OD speedo cable and I stuck it into the hole, but there doesn't seem to be any connection to a drive element. Am I missing something? The end of cable is buried in a small round device. I hope it's OK, but I would like to fix it before I install the trans.

There should be a one piece drive gear on a short shaft. The shaft is a couple of inches long and fits down inside that round piece. The speedo cable inserts into a square hole at the end of the shaft. The gear is about an inch or so in diameter and number of teeth depends on the axle ratio. I believe it is a similar setup on the car without OD although I'm not sure the gear is interchangeable or exactly the same item between regular or OD trans.

thank you, I am missing the piece that goes into the ferrule. Since I have a 4.06 rear end I'll have to get the proper gear ratio.

I just mailed my overdrive governor off for rebuild. One more item to obtain is the drive shaft for the speedometer. I'll be ready to assemble and get on the road.
The story goes on.

I use an 18 tooth pinion shaft as there is no match for the 4.09 rear end.

I have an extra if you need it.
