Coolant Line Size & Routing for a 1937 Twelve

Post by DPeeler1937 » Sun Apr 19, 2015 4:02 pm

Need help trying to complete the radiator to coolant overflow tank connection and had the following questions:

1. The copper line between the two appears to be 7/16" OD. I can't seem to find that size of copper line anywhere - does anyone know where I can find it? Will a 3/8" or 1/2" line work?
2. Are there any drawings or diagrams that show the routing of the line and are there are any fittings along the line?

Any help would be most appreciated!

David

If you'll check your Twelve parts book for me and confirm that a 1936 Twelve uses the same parts, I'll try to get you some pictures later this week, and a measurement of the line size.

Dave, not all the info you wanted but just by eyeball the line appears to be 7/16 OD thin-wall tubing. I understand that it is available in cupro-nickel which is so easy to work with as it bends and forms easily, and also available as special order from larger plumbing supply houses. Perhaps a check of places like MSC Industrial Supply would yield something as well. By memory from the car owner it appears to make one 90° bend at the tank and run forward more-or-less in a straight line to the correction at the base of the radiator.

Pix next week hopefully. Maybe by then you'll have the answer anyway.

34PackardGuy & Dave,

I have been unable to confirm if the '36 and '37 uses the same parts. My parts book has only part # 6669, which appears to be the connector tube and is shown to be 7/16". There's no diagram as to routing but I suspect that there are 2 - 90 degree elbows and the tubing runs inside the frame channel with the elbows at each end of the run. If either of you can sketch the run or even photo each end of the tubing showing some positioning to the frame, it would be most helpful.

I finally found 7/16" OD tubing in a soft brass with wall thickness of 0.065" but have not in copper or cupro-nickel. I think this should work fine and need to find elbows next.

Thanks for the help!

David
