1950 shift linkages

These get stuck. Used to be only every once and a while, and a little WD40 on the joints would help. Easy to get to, if it happened while driving, relatively easy to pull over and use a crowbar to separate. But getting worse. What's involved? Would love any ideas ranging from simpler solutions to total redo.

There are several notices in the ongoing Service Letters that deal with this. Essentially it is no more and no less than replacing worn parts including mostly bushings and then following the readjustment procedure. Of course check for other failures like the detent interlocks inside the transmission, bent linkages, etc. Not a trivial endeavor.

Using oil to lube the column levers will give a lot more relief than WD-40 which has zero lubricating power, its just a water dispersant (rust inhibitor).
