Fan blades 1938 Twelve

Post by Bluedevil » Sat Apr 13, 2019 5:52 am

I noticed that my fan blades appear to be painted aluminum. They are a light gray. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

One commonly accepted (though not without occasional dispute) information source is the PI Engine Room Judging Manual. In the case of your fan it is not completely clear; the hub and spokes should be black, probably semigloss though that's not certain. The blades are either natural aluminum or steel with an aluminum paint finish. Rivets are said to be "natural" finish.

In this case I'd recommend trying to get a look at an unmolested original to confirm.

Dave,

Thanks again. You reference the PI Engine Room Judging Manual. Where would one find that? I would much rather have my own reference manual

The manual was at one time a club project for sale by Packards International. I'm not sure if it is still offered but you could check with PI.
