Flywheel lock plate. 22nd series

Post by Sjscat » Tue May 21, 2019 6:52 pm

I took the flywheel off my 1949 Deluxe to get it surfaced. The lock plates, the pieces of metal that get the ends bent up to hold the flywheel bolts in place, got damaged. There are three of them. They are 19 ga stainless. What have others done to find them? What did you make them out of?

A photo of one is attached.

Many Thanks.

No ideas on an aftermarket replacement but if no one has a better suggestion have you tried Kanter to see if they might have them? The same part number 421761 lock plate, 3 per car was used on most engines (except the 356 which used larger) from 48 until 54. Max doesn't list them but I believe Kanter might have a larger NOS stock so they may still be available.

To me they appear to be something that would be extremely easy to make yourself. However, I don't understand the need for stainless steel.

I have some 16 gage cold rolled steel. That should work.

Red or Blue Loctite might work just as well.
