I’ve had the car 30 years. A few weeks ago the oil pressure started to fluctuate very high very low within any short operation. Now every time it pegs the gauge. When I pulled the spring the plunger didn’t come out. I used a magnetic stick and worked it out. I cleaned Both the pump housing and the plunger. I’ve reinstalled several times and still pegs the gauge. If I leave the spring and plunger out there is no pressure. Based on the sound of the engine I believe the pressure is correct. The pressure builds slowly until it’s pegged. Being warm doesn’t change anything. I’ve been using non detergent oil from the beginning. Any suggestions? Does the plunger have to face a certain direction when installing.
