1949 Packard Custon 8 Interior
1949 Packard Custon 8 Interior
Hello! Proud owner of a "new" '49 Packard. While refurbishing and cleaning the interior, I pulled all the seats out. Coil springs still nicely wrapped/tied with burlap, frame in good shape. Noted some metal tags attached to the front and rear seat backs. See photos. I think I have a "mix and match" set of seats. Can anyone help to decipher the codes? Top photo back seat driver side seat back cushion 386322 H MC. Middle photo back seat pass side seat back cushion K with a Y? [ inside a circle ] 386321. Bottom photo front seat back cushion 380856 F. Thank you.

Very interesting, I've owned a few Custom Eights and never seen such tags. Hope someone has an answer for you!
Unclear as to the identification of your Custom 8, is it a 22nd 1949 or a 23rd series 1949?

Over on the PackardInfo.com Website the 1948-1954 Packard Parts List is available for free download. Looking at that I went to the Index and found P/n 386322 which crossed to group 30.940. Looking in Group 30.940 found P/n 386322 and its application as you'll see from the screen shots attached. You can have hours of "fun" perusing the various Packard Parts Lists!

So..........I have a 2252. And thank you for solving another Packard mystery. I am actually looking for seat covers as well. Many thanks!

The actual number from the underhood cowl plate is 2252 - 9 8247. Willl check the board for what that means.

That number corresponds to a 22nd Series 1949 vehicle. I'll check Bob Neal's book later to see if its a factory renumbered 1948 leftover.
