Pin Striping Width for '37 Twelve

Post by DPeeler1937 » Sat Feb 13, 2016 1:05 pm

I've looked at a lot of '37 Twelve's and there seems to be varying widths of pin striping. What would appear to be correct is a 1/8" or maybe a 3/32". Does anyone know what would be factory correct? Thanks for the help! Dave

Never seen a factory specification for it and rather doubt there was one, but 1/8 sounds terribly thick!! When I had my '34 restriped I was lucky to still have much of the original striping present, you can see some of that work in the "original details". '34 is of course double-striped but I'd say it's thinner than 3/32. Best I can say is THINK THIN!

My '37 is double striped as well and when I used a 1/8" tape just to get an idea of what the painted stripe would look like, it just seemed too wide. I would think even the 3/32" is too but wasn't sure. I think I'll try 1/16" to see how that looks. Thanks!

I can go out to the garage and make a few measurements if you wish.

Too cold (4° F.) in the garage to linger too long but I took about 5 measurements of the stripe width. Of course as they are hand-painted there is a bit of variation as the painter might have exerted a bit more or less force to the brush as he rounded curves and corners. I actually measured it with a Vernier at between 0.048 and 0.055", so about 3/64" and at the widest it is still less than 1/16". Hope this helps.

I have the Beugler wheel striping kit , patented in 1933, and used by Packard.
There are several widths in the set as well as double stripe wheels . I used the 1/16th and did the terminations by hand .
Good luck , its not easy but very satisfying after its done.
