Removing glass from rubber channel and frame

Post by Bluedevil » Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:11 am

I was struggling trying to remove some glass from a side vent window frame without breaking it. I had taken the screws out of the frame and found the channel rubber that seals the glass in the frame had dried out and was acting like an adhesive.

I had recently been trying to soften old rubber and DOT 3/4 brake fluid did a great job. I took the glass and frames out of the car to avoid getting brake fluid on the paint (DOT 3/4 is also a great paint remover) poured a little DOT on the joints and within 10 min the glass just came out with little coaxing. Should work for windshields.

Final score Me 4 broken glass 0.

Be sure to clean the brake fluid off
