REPLACING THE 6 VOLT GENERATOR ON MY 52 DELUXE 200

Post by willits18 » Wed Aug 30, 2017 5:21 pm

I am putting the engine back together and can't find the picture that I took of the generator wiring. It seems pretty simple. 1 large red wire, 1 large black wire those are color coded. there is only 1 place the condenser wire can go-same as the black wire. I have 1 wire left. I believe it goes to the red terminal that the large red wire goes to. I just don't want to short anything out. I have never worked on a generator system before. If anyone has a picture of their setup I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Tracy.

I forgot to say that it is a Delco-Remy generator.

I found my picture. It looks like the 4th wire is a ground that goes the condenser retaining screw.

I would double check the wiring and verify the colors and sizes. The condenser wire should go on the armature terminal which should be the red/black wire and is the largest wire and largest terminal. The field and ground are both smaller ga wires so a smaller diameter than the red armature wire. Field is the smaller post terminal and ground the screw into the case.

If the wiring has been replaced or worked on make sure each wire goes to the correct terminals on the regulator. Armature goes to ARM (or GEN) on the regulator. Field goes to FLD and the solid black ground wire goes to the left fender terminal strip mounting screw where it joins another wire going to the regulator ground screw or on a mounting screw. If on a mounting screw make sure it has a good connection to the regulator base and is not on the wrong side of a rubber cushion.

Here is a snip from the 52 wiring diagram and instructions from the radio installation instructions on mounting the noise suppressor condenser on the generator
