How to repair a Stromberg EE-23 Carburetor

Post by flyingk15 » Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:12 pm

So, I scored a well worn EE-23 at a very low price which showed some signs of an older repair around the inlet where all EE 23's tend to fail if over torqued. mine held up for a little while after rebuild then failed mysteriously. Luckily it failed just sitting there and nowt while I was test running the engine.

I had been looking for a broken EE-23 because there was simply no way I was going to pay $2500.00 for one that still needed rebuild! So when mine failed I saw it as a challenge.

Here, submitted for your approval is my answer to the long dreaded issue.

Here are a few of the steps in producing the new inlet assembly. As I install I will fill the gaps between the two repair plates with petroleum proof epoxy to seal everything in. Also, while the epoxy isn't required for strength it doesn't hurt either. The repair plate and screws will never be removed again. The repair is far stronger than the original carb bowl.

hmmm....LOVE IT. While not a million dollar market, there are plenty of bowl needing this widget. I may even have one...
And Don - not ignoring you - I may even have a heater for you....27 degrees last night!

I will be happy to do this for anyone out there. I will be curious to see how consistent the cracked areas are. I can see where some may be worse.

If they run about the same as this example, i could see where 250.00 would be a fair price to perform this. i only say that based on the fact that each one will be a little different in scope and require different machining to match.

I am interested in obtaining more broken carbs to practice a bit.
