Radio models for 1937 120 C - 1099

Post by chrislibby63 » Tue Apr 23, 2019 1:20 pm

I have a 1937 120 C coupe convertible and am trying to determine which radio model is appropriate for the car. I've reviewed dealer brochures, Operation Manuals and other sources but it is not clear if the one piece (combined speaker and receiver) or the two piece "Deluxe" (separate speaker and receiver) were offered in this car. Both would have the control head in the dash. The model numbers I've encountered are 5153 for the one piece and 5150 for the Deluxe two piece. Most items in the coupe convertible were the more deluxe offering so I suspect it was the 5150 model. Any thoughts?

The 37 120 and six accessory catalog is at www.packardinfo.com. I can't direct link to literature pieces but it is item 25 in the sales brochure category. You can download the catalog if you want to see the major accessories offered. The way I read the book a buyer could opt for the single or custom unit as well as an optional second speaker for both that mounted overhead in closed cars which provided better hearing for those in the rear seat. Unclear if the second speaker could be mounted in a different location for convertibles but some enterprising mechanic could probably find a place.
