V12 doesn't hold prime

Post by ROXY VENDENA » Sun Aug 02, 2020 8:45 pm

I have a 1934 Packard 12.
It starts a little hard most of the time, but runs beautiful after it starts. The problem is when I turn it off for more than 5 minutes, it loses the fuel in the line going into the carb.
I put an electric fuel pump with a bypass on it, and that does not seem to help 1 bit.
The fuel bowl stays full, but apparently the gas drains back down because when I brake the line going into the carb, there is no gas there.
an anyone give me some ideas as to where to look?
Thanks!

My guess is that you have air entering into the system. Something is not sealed, which might also be the cause of the hard start.

I also assume you have no signs of leaking fuel?

Have you replaced the needle valve on the float? Fuel pump check valves?

You may also have a faulty float.
