Starter Exchange on 1940 110 (1800)

I am looking for some assistance. I have a 1940 110 convertible that is new to me. It has the proper auto-lite MZ 4078 starter installed that is starting to drag. I will rebuild it/trace cables..., but I would like to locate a second starter for my car. I have found that this model/year was the only time that the MZ 4078 was utilized. It seems the 1800 series has several items that were unique. That makes them hard to locate. My question is are other 110/Six starters or possibly a 120 starter interchangeable with my 1940 110?

Looking to get a Hollander Exchange Manual, but have not done so yet. I guess my second question is have other 1800 users had success finding exchange parts references in Hollander's manuals?

Were it me, I'd just get a quality rebuild of your starter, properly done it should last a lifetime without further needs. As to Hollanders, though I dont recall using it specifically for an 1800 question, I use mine regularly and it is an important asset for maintaining vintage vehicles. If you intend to keep this car and maintain it, by all means get a Hollander.

as to interchange, yes,most any 35-54 starter will interchange, (exceptions being 320, 356 and 327-9main with the big delco solenoid...) The MZ starter was a "step down" I suspect motivated by some "bean counter" of the era, long since fired.

Thanks flackmaster! I have not checked this for a while. I bought a Delco are my from 1939 Six. Wow what a difference. It spins it much better than the MZ.
